Virtual biochemistry.

American researchers created a virtual model of cellular human biochemical reactions (2007
Duarte, N.D., Becker, S. A., Jamshidi, N., Thiele, I., Mo, M. L., Vo, T. D., Srivas, R., Palsson, B. O., "Global reconstruction of the human metabolic network based on genomic and bibliomic data", Proc. Nat’l Acad. Sci- Accepted-). For it, they revised 1500 books, papers magazines and scientific reports of the last 50 years elaborating a database of 3,300 metabolic reactions. The computer pattern will allow the scientists to predict diverse treatments in metabolic processes, instead of using real cells. Bernhard Palsson, medical bioengineer of the University of California, jointly with 6 colleagues, said that the net is capable of scrutinizing the effectiveness of antisinthesis cholesterol drugs or to get off weight. Meanwhile they have analyzed the human genome virtually looking for relationships between genes and certain metabolic processes related with the production of enzymes. Now they are about predicting what would happen if anything interfere with certain metabolic processes of the blood or heart cells. Although the goal but important is to identify metabolic personalized nets. They also hope to predict in detail the characteristics of metabolic reactions that convert fat, proteins and carbohydrates to energy, particularities of hemolytic anemias (quick destruction of blood cells), etc. First told it Carl Woese (next Prize Nobel winner) and now Palsson: the factic models must be preceded each time but often by theoretical models.

Bioquimica virtual

Male second debut.

The Americans attend every time with more frequency to plastic surgeons to maintain their jobs (before the fierce competition of the new generations), to feel inner more alive, to have but self-esteem and to be successful with women. They, wish to look themselves like models of footbridge or stars of Hollywood. As in the jobs the tendency predominates to choose young people, more men go to plastic surgeons. Thus, americans are invading one of the last bastions of the women. They want to smell better, that their outer appearance be respected, says Phillip Haeck of the federal state of Washington. Most men wishes that their "tired appearance disappears"says Mark de Solomon de Pennsylvania adding :" the competition around good jobs is every acute time but". The increased number of divorces induces to second youthful male debuts. Between 2000 and 2005 the number of men that assisted to plastic surgeons raised to a 156%, but in the adjustment of lips was 400%. "Plastic beauty is no longer a taboo for men" says Haeck. By his side, Jim Larson says that fixing their heavy-lidded to men of 41 years old leave them young, but wide-awake, but alive. "If the lady becomes fixed why not I". A correction of eyes costs between 3000 to 4000 dollars, racionalization of thorax: 5000 dollars to but, whereas complex operations but cost over the 10.000 dollars.

Siempre bellos

Transsexuals not need psychiatric help

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhsgETOXESU

Transsexuals not need psychiatric help.

The transsexuals have the feeling (from children), to inhabit a wrong body. Ever since they have use of the reason, all of them dream about being models in Paris, painting their rooms of pink color and have full of dolls. They read magazines of fashions and have small machines to sew. For physicians that treat them they are errors of fabric. Some physicians and psychiatrists reject to treat them because they have cautious and cloudy thoughts. They come to the world with bodies, chromosomes and male hormones. Despite it, they feel different "I landed in the mistaken body", says Tim, that at 2 years fit the dresses of the dolls of her older sisters, played with barbies and said "I am woman." At 4 years she escaped from hairdressers that want to cut the hair to him. In the last years, many transsexuals have chosen to change their sexes and to be put under hormone infusions by long time. In Germany there are 6000 transsexuals in continuous medical treatment. The parents have learned that transsexuality does not have anything to do whereupon their children sleep with women or men. The transsexuals are not rara avis, they wish to completely have normal lives with the other sex doing all the possible to adapt their bodies with hormones and operations to feel sex. So what to go now to the psychiatrist?. Kim plays and celebrates birthday of women and attends the ballet. In her school their companions see her like a woman, but not like a problem, his father says. Until Kim was 12 years old all was OK. But one morning when her voice sounded harsh he entered in panic. "Single the hormones make me to continue being a woman."he said. A clasic history said Bernd Meyenburg of the Hospital of Frankfurt/Mainz: "As the transsexuals are rare the psychiatrists have little experience with them...There are not many experts in Germany". Although most differents finishes being homosexual a limited number become transsexual. It is difficult to know by hormonal measurements or CAT scan if somebody is transsexual or not. The diagnosis is based on the desire of a transsexual by another man. Adult transsexuals are treated long time with psycotherapy. With the children there is no time that to lose.

The pregnancy stress affects the future child.

The doctor Vivette Glover of the Imperial College of London is accumulating evidences of something that our mothers have come telling to sotto voce, during decades: that mistreated mothers by cruel or violent husbands, during their pregnacies gestate children affected emotionally. The Dra Vvette has demonstrated that there is a strong correlation between maternal and fetal cortisol (elevated), levels (Gitau et al 1998, 2001), and that if the mother is anxious there is less blood flow to the baby (Teixeira et al 1999). High levels of in utero testosterone may also affect the neurodevelopment of the child (Gitau et al 2005). Also it has been shown low levels of IQ (at 18 months), in children of mothers submitted to violent stresses during their pregnancies. The children born of this luck are anxious, fearful, unstable and many suffer of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Learning to fly with dinos.

Drawings: BBC Courtesy.

The finding of a series of dinosaurs (Microraptor gui, with 4 wings), with several wings and feathers of until 130 million years of antiquity, should be motive of permanent attention on behalf of the builders of airplanes, model plane hobbyists and fans to personal flights (to style of Icaro). There are dinos with 4 wings and asymmetric feathers. All indicates that some dino that employed the hind legs to run, developed in some moment wings, flew from tree in tree to finally achieve large distances. Some scholars affirm that small dinos should be the precursors of modern birds.

The interesting thing is that dinosaurs are being discovered that flew like present monoplanes and biplanes (large wings forming the upper ceiling and lateralized legs forming the lower ceiling to carry but weight, according to Sankar Chatterjee and R Jack Templin. As it is known the Archaeopteryx the flying but old dino-fosil flew like a monoplane.

IVF with dead sperm:good.

The news of the intent to carry out fertilizations in vitro (IVF), employing dead spermatozoa (until now the sperm mobility is the most accepted measure of sperm´s health), has an answer of our part: the conceived in this manner will be born alive and healthy. For us the concept of alive or dead cannot be defined by a few rules. The concept has to see a lot with the environment. A semidead spermatozoon will revive if it is encircled by a healthy environment and vice versa. A virus without human hosts will die and vice versa.

Criminal Mind : II Part.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYeyDdRhvbk

Yesterday began in Vancouver, the trial against the presumed bigger serie´s murderer of women in all Canada´s history. Of that advanced by forensic police it comes off that Robert Pickton (57, farmer), accustomed to drive to his farm of pigs (Piggy Palace), located in Port Coquitlam (the poorest Canada´s neighboorhood), near Vancouver, to prostitutes and drug addicts to whom he proceeded to murder them after celebrating the encounter, to cut them in pieces with a skin cutter, giving of eating his pigs with the spoils of those murdered and spreading or burying the rest of the dismembered bodies in the underground of his property. It is known that he was a neglected man, since bags and dresses covered with blood of those murdered were easily recovered by the police. To the date, the forensic police has identified DNA´s samples of 25 different women murdered from 1995 to the date, although the police suspects that the final number of deaths will be higher. There are critics against the police for the slowness of their work. It is expected that some of the 300 journalists that attend the trial will appeal in some moment to psychological support in reason of the rough details to be listened.

What leads us again to the topic of the criminal mind. From the time of Cesare Lombroso that related facieses with criminal bias, the criminology has advanced enough. Many specialists affirm that boys abused in their childhood, poor economically and with familiar affective deprivation risk runs of having them with dispersed attention, lack of control of their impulses as long as adults they will enjoy the sensation of domain control and power over their victims by way of compensation for the abuses suffered in their childhood. According to Larry Siegel of the University of Lowett, today criminologists and forensic experts struggle to see the thoughts (what the criminal says, what motivates them, will they make it again?), of criminals, with the purpose of to install preventive measures or to be ahead to the events. An important link in this chain is the sociópat (liars and manipulators with lacks of conscience and empathy for their victims), hidden on account of their power in different strata of the society. Many criminals simulate mental and physical defects or blame themselves of smaller crimes to hide others of more magnitude. In this sense it cares the interpretation of the body language (they avoid the look, become nervous, etc). The criminal motivations, are generally : money, vengeance or, witness silencing.
Mente criminal. II parte.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT7MWsjd4rw

Anabolics and Health.

Interview to Dr. Luipold Kistler (Spiegel Online). According to Dr. Luitpold Kistler without daily ingestion (doping, according to him), of anabólics (derived artificial from male testosterone /Stanozolol/Metandienon/Nandrolon, promoters of muscular growth), is impossible to obtain muscular bodies. However, the side- effects that in the long run they cause are frightful.
Spiegel, Online: Some speak of diseases and until of lethal effects... Dr. Kistler, what you found, after to autopsy bodies damaged by abuse of anabólics? (L. Kistler and Andreas Buettner, made autopsies to 10 abusers of anabólics).

Kistler: Who that ingests anabólics to increase his muscular mass can in the course of 1 year, have problems in his cardiac cycle, enlargement of his heart, calcification of his blood vessels, have anomalous organic depots in the liver, kidney and failure of some important organs.
Spiegel Online: How fast can become ill a bodybuilder?
Kistler: Not of today for morning, but many of the studied people had multiple cardiac infarcts before dying and they did not realize it.
Spiegel Online: To all of them it happens the same?
Kistler: Some ingest anabolics per years without problems. Nevertheless, some sportsmen have high pressure, difficulties for erection, ciclic pains in hardly 6 months. To but preparations, but dose and combinations of anabolics: violent effects but.
Spiegel Online: In which percentage contributes the anabolics to the constitution of atletic bodies?
Kistler: 100 per cent.
Spiegel Online: what do you think about genetic doping? Kistler: The inserted genes generate the wished substances (anabolics), in uncontrolled form, however, the collateral effects do not diminish.
Spiegel Online: What reasons impel the bodybuilders to consume anabólics.
Kistler: It is dificcult to understand them... A bodybuilder spends 5000 euros per month to maintain his muscular structure and single a small elite earns well...they follow an illusion.....they live its own world, which never they leave....it is an ill conduct….. we spoke in this case of dysmorphophobia (deformed image of themselves). A 140 kg bodybuilder does not leave his house because he thinks that he is very thin ….many wants to shine like Brad Pitt in Fight Club. ..The ideal of beauty imposed by means pressed to teenagers…they think that single they can obtain that ideal with support means…the teenagers are most influenced ...When they do not ingest anabolics, the obtained muscle mass regressed quickly affecting but the unstable ones. Then, it is easy to ingest antidepressing drugs, cocaine, heroine, amphetamines.

Kistler: Es dificil entenderlos…

We are not alone.

An important sector of physics participates of Fermi's paradox, that establishes that if extraterrestrial life does exist : why they don’t visit us. Rasmus Bjork a physic from Niels Bohr Institute/Copenhagen, using computer’ simulation of the Milky Way, assures that this task has been impossible until now because the enormous intergalaxies distances. Bohr assures that even though the extraterrestrial ones were sending exploratory probes in search of life, these alone reached stars but near them. Even they could travel to 1/10 of the speed of the light, or 30 000 km/s, the distances will continue being enormous. As a comparison, to the Cassini probe (NASA, in mission towards Saturn), that travels to 32 km/s, will it take 10 billions years to explore single 4% of the Milky Way. Although they used radio or TV receivers waves (originated in colonized planets) or if the extraterrestrial could travel through warmholes it still take million years to them to find planets that host life. Not in these times, but in the near future (with aid of robots) it will be possible find alien life.

No estamos solos.

Artificial blood.

One of the great world-wide medical problems is the short supply of human blood (because the blood groups are not compatible, because the blood is more than 30 days of being collected, the possibility that it is infected or because the national or local services of blood collection lack the necessary efficiency). The Dr. Bruce Spiess of the Coommowealth University of Virginia, leader for many years, in the elaboration of artificial blood has been experimenting since many years with small inert particles of a special carrier of oxygen: perfluorhidrocarbons (PFCs). His commercial product : Oxycite (50 ml, containing PFCs), carries so much oxygen as 4 L of blood. The Oxycite has been experienced successfully in at least one dozen of affected humans of cerebral stroke, spinal insults and severe inflammations states that tend to contract or to diminish the light of little blood vessels, preventing an adequate oxygen tissue supply in vital areas.

Sangre artificial

The best Hospital of New York

It seems us interesting to put in knowledge of our readers a selection of the best hospitals of New York, obtained by means of answers to specific questionnaires sent to 30 000 New York physicians of which 1000, responded suitably. The results are the following, respecting the order: 1) New York Presbyterian Hospital, that counts on 2 divisions of cardiac surgery with very low indexs of mortality. Besides they reported also : 52% % successful fertilizations in vitro (IVF), with noncongealed embryos. One knows that they take care of with much consideration to gays and lesbians. Also, they make screening of cancer to fetuses and take care of successful of many cases of childbirths of high risk 2) Mount Medical Sinai Center 3) New York Medical Center 4) Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital, leaders in cancer of prostate, lung, breast, colon. Peter Scardino one of his star physicians makes 750 successful total prostatectomies each year with the added one that most of his patients, does not accuse (postoperatively), alterations in their sexual function 5) Yale New Haven Hospital 6) Montefiore Medical Center, with revolutionary treatments for migraine..... It was interesting also to know the medical anchors that decided the election: a) the trustworthy diagnosis of any disease depends on a good interrogation (detailed clinical file). In as much, the interrogations are carried out by medicos, residents, internal, nurses, etc, this in the long run turns the immense data in quality, arriving to better diagnosis b) for dificcult diseases, these great hospitals always count on new protocols of investigation c) continuously make works of investigation d) make much well-taken care of basic medicine, of preventive counseling and nursing, etc which improves medical attention e) finally comes the volume of practical procedures : is not better somebody than realize 800 yearly medical procedures than somebody that single realize 20?. this article appeared in New York magazine (November/20/2006), written by Sandeep Jauhar.

Pansperm theory,again

Charles Cockell of the Open University, jointly with Russian and German researchers crowded together to the interior of several gabbro rocks : cyanobacteria (Chroococcidiopsis sp.) lichen (Xanthoria elegans) and spores of Bacillus subtilus, that normally lives in the fissures of rocks. After it, they connected the conglomerates of germs to a wire of silver, connected also to explosives of high tonnage (with pressures of up to 50 billions of pascals), finding for surprise that all germs and spores survived the explosions, guaranteeing the "panspermia" theory that suggests that life can be transported from one to another planet on board of rocks that continuously hit the surface of planets. Writing in the journal Icarus the scientifics argue that these experiment supports the possibility of previous microbial Mars life, with later transference of this one to the Earth. We have no doubts that Earth life emerged from this form.

Libraries of the next future.

Diverse circumstances allow me to attend from principles of January/07 to the splendid library of South Miami (a branch of a circuit of 40 libraries of the county of Miami: Miami Dade County. Public Library System). This branch is located to about 50 meters of the warm beaches of South Beach (touristic center par excellence in USA). Being foreign they had to good to grant me a temporary guest library card (1 year), with which I accede freely to all the collections of the library including the use of computers (free: 2 hs/day). There is more: 1) the second floor with 35 computers and diverse collections is exclusively dedicated to take care of students of first and second level (indicative of the American educative cosmovisión). In the first floor (of a building of 2 floors and 250 m2), there are services of scan, photocopy, impression, fax, etc to 15 cénts per/sheet. The use of computers (40, in the first floor), including laptops is free. 2) One can take to house up to 7 books/x/7 days (to 15 cents each/book), as long as the user credits residence, otherwise alone he can read them in the library. The facilities of the library are excelent (fashion comfortable armchairs everywhere, light suitable and regulated of day and night, clean and excellent restrooms, distilled water everywhere, permanent information service, restaurant opened all day, security all the day, adjacent rooms to rest as desired, reading’s tutors formation on the part of the library. The attention is permanent : 9.30 a.m.-9 p.m. (M-T), 9,30-6pm (F-Sat) 1pm-6pm (Sun). If something unexpected occur the director announces it by a loudspeaker.

3) The important thing for us is a) the authorities library's desire by which all residents in Miami become avid readers. b) a personal and constant attention of the director of the libray and all the very kind employees to solve any problem of readers c) the intense preoccupation to have in display the main magazines and titles of books of the present time worldwide. There are books for blind and deaf people, audio, videos and many connections to other services. With so many facilities they give desire us to remain here to make an intense productive work. 4) These days were difficulties to connect the librarie’s PC in permanent form to Internet. I noticed then certain loss in the affluence and certain incomodity of certain sector of the library's users. I interpret this attitude as a valid proof of a previous prediction (Ciencia: July/08/2005) ours: the future’s reader tends to be audio-visual and omniinformative (he wants all the information quickly), which not speak bad about the existence of shades. Therefore, the libraries that have not adequate online connections (with computers and audio-visual innovations renewed constantly), are going to die. The malaise was surpassed partly because many readers began to take to the library their personal laptops. As you dear reader knows, all South Miami counts on broadband, which allows wireless connection to Internet. What I observe is that when the reader (asimilator of information), goes to excellent libraries like this, but not to seat to read books exclusively, but to provide itself with whichever information is possible with whichever means is possible. So, the modern reader tends to combine resources (online media, magazines, books, etc), deciding single in the end a specific subject to which he will dedicate preferential attention. As we said it before the libraries of the future would be totally computerized.

A robot in every home.

Black holes

It does 7 days that commenting in "Miniblackholes" we argued that: "for us the black holes, should be a species of regulators of the spatial/energy order of determined areas of the space-time, sending many or few gravitational waves as be the case, to spatial bodies of great size, that they want to attract, to stop or to move away "… With surprise yesterday we read in the last edition of the Scientific American, an article (with many evidences), arriving to the same conclusions that we.

A robot in each house

In another article also appeared in the Scientific American, of Bill Gates, he finishes being appropriated of the idea of the government of South Korea, who proposes a robot in each south korean house for the 2013. Gates argued that this is possible to carry out when certain groups be ready to obtain a critical mass of scientifics specialists in robotic, basic software for the construccion of robots (not those that are built constantly, de novo), and above all to have the vision, the need and the pertinent enthusiasm. By suddenly the robots are necessary to develop works of caution/security, aid medical diagnoses and curative, multiples domestic works, universal soldiers specialized workers of Bold construction, specialists in rescue efforts, dangerous works, aid to disabled, etc. After Gates sent 2 people of his confidence to study and to be documented of the advances to this respect in universities, businesses and institutes, Gates concluded that at present exist a similar situation to which existed 30 years ago when itself start the great revolution that put the computers to the reach of each human. In the article, Gates planted 2 basic ideas 1) To leave the simple works to domestic PCs, leaving to central MegaPCs (connected to multiples homemade PCs), to take charge of the works but arduous 2) Try that each robotic sensorial area (view, pressure, hearing), be totally independent, of way such that set against something unexpected, itself they be not stalled like happens at present in which data originated in several robotic sensors end in a functionally imperfect unity. For us 1) the robotic software should imitate the human cerebral operation (circuits in parallel) 2) each nanochip should aspire to become an independent computer, that’s to say :1 000 000 nanochips = 1 000 000 miniPCs 3) nevertheless they should exist common potential areas, capable to build with the time a robotic multimedia consciousness capable to structure an ego (a robotic self) 4) Try to structure reflex movements for be adapted to changing environmental situations 5) To have various types of energy in simultaneous form to avoid functional interruptions 6) In the modernizations to continue the principle of the simplicity 7) the brain nanochips of the computers should be made of nanocarbon and/or fullerenes 8) to Initiate a program that permit to the computers self-replicate certain machine areas, following the model of the human ADN.

Agujeros negros
