LEARNING and MEMOIR in OLDER

After 60 years, certain percentage of humans beings do not remember things learned recently. After 80, things are worse. As we know, learning and memoir are task of healthy neurons, continuously renewed. Until recently it was thought that only newborns and teenagers could form new neurons. Recent experiments have shown however, that adult humans, are also able to renew new neurons, provided they perform significant cognitive effort, eat blueberries, make continuous physical exercise and ingest antidepressants.

Elizabeth Gould and Tracey J. Shors, assure that new neurons are formed in adult dentate gyrus (hippocampus). So, if you decide to learn something during all your lifespan (induced neurogenesis), it will be very difficult to lose the memory or suffer from Alzheimer.
