SWINE FLU: NEW VACCINES

The speech given yesterday by Margaret Chang (WHO),was clear: a) The global healthcare system is better prepared than before, to tackle viral pandemic. b) Severe cases of the current pandemic -threat level 5- wil affect mainly people in poor countries. c) There is no vaccine available against the current H1N1 strain. As the development of this, takes 6 months on average, it will be useful generate alternatives vaccines : 1) For the time being, the U.S. government is offering a lot of money in order to develop a method of growing virus in containers filled with mammalian cells, hoping to shorten this process to a few weeks 2) The traditional method practiced since 50 years ago consists of injecting virus in fertilized chicken eggs. Being reproduced, the virus are injected in mammalian cells to get more growing. Later using chemical the virus are inactivated. Finally are used virus fragments to form vaccines. A process that lasts 6 months on average. With the latter method (obsolete already), 2 U.S. companies hope to produce enough vaccines (2 doses for every American) in January 2010. The CDC has begun to prepare a virus strain that will be sent to companies who wish to prepare the vaccine.
3) Given this bleak picture, we think it will be better to generate virtual vaccines by computer, based on probabilistic estimates of future antigenic viral epidemic shifts. Being ready the designed antigenic variation (1 to 2 years before the pandemic occurs), it will be good to produce a real virus according to the design and then test their ability to induce antibodies in animals. Help this conception to know that the molecular analysis of a currently virus A (H1N1), is the same throughout the world (not mutated). Calculation of the antigenic variation probability would be done by comparing the antigenic structures of the H1N1 virus in 1918, the current, and those of the years 1950, 1977, 1978-1979, 1983-1984, 1986-87, establishing differences and similarities. It is known that epidemics of A-H1N1 virus, occur every 11-14 years. Antigenic variation is recognized by changes in reciprocal tests of hemagglutination/inhibition, using animal antisera and comparing levels of antibody in persons immunized with real viruses previously designed virtually. Antigenic variation would be compared with the variation of the real structure of the prototype virus, unraveled as soon as during an epidemic. The same procedure would be applied to genomic recombination (viral genomes are available from 1918 and the current).

GRIPE PORCINA:NUEVAS VACUNAS

SWINE FLU

Swine flu (caused by H1N1: a subtype of influenza A virus), that has infected 1600 and killed 151 mexicans and now affects 16 countries, has it own history. According to Francisco Guerra (1985/La epidemia Americana de influenza de 1493. 45 (176) :326-347), pigs imported by Spaniards decimated Taino Indians (1 000 000 to 10 000, in the course of 13 years) of the island of Santo Domingo. This coupled with deaths of 50 million human beings occurred between 1918/1920 as a result of a pandemic of influenza A (also, with virus subtype H1N1), scares the world, today. The issue is serious because there is no vaccine, because the new strain are formed by exchange of homologous subunits of genomes of USA avian and swine influenza viruses, swine flu and Eurasian human flu. According to German scientists, the new H1N1 strain emerged because cells of pigs act as mixers of virus genomes of birds, pigs and humans. Transmission to humans is because our immune systems, are similar to those of birds and pigs.

To defend ourselves we have only general antiviral (that must be administered to adolescents, older adults, children, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, police, firemen, government authorities and special security) and the known epidemiological methods (masks :spreads by coughing and constant sneezing, washing hands, avoiding greet with kisses, avoiding places of high population density: buses, metros, auditoriums, schools, churches, checking travelers at air terminals, isolation of patients, etc). The last allows Keiji Fukuda (WHO), to ensure that there are now more stocks of antiviral drugs to prevent infection by the virus. If someone developed an intentionally biological warfare not need imagine much, just keep a visual inventory of what is currently deployed in the media: fast replication of new viral strains (due to absence of natural immunity), increasing numbers of people affected, weak international sanitary barriers (uncontrollable intrusion of Mexican drug traffickers, with aircraft or other means). On the other side, it is known that current pandemic started in one of the largest pig farms in Veracruz/Mexico, spreading thence to 16 countries for people mobilized from Mexico to their countries of origin. While the 40 cases in USA, have mild symptoms and mexicans : mortal, it is speculated the existence of a coinfectión with other virus or slight variations regarding the American virus. It is interesting to know that the H1N1 subtype was prevalent in swine populations until 1998, so that our immune system already knows the virus. The current virus is a variant of the H1N1 virus that caused the 1918 pandemic.

Regarding the vaccine, it delay on average 6 months to be produced. In relation to it, everything is not happiness because previous vaccines induced Guillain-Barré Syndrome (neurological paralysis). Moreover, current models are based on retrospective analysis that ignore that new strains will always be different. We need to review carefully past pandemics to design new types of vaccines. We knows that pandemic occur every 11 to 40 years and according to a German study 72% of passengers are infected with the virus over a period of 4 hours. We think that with the help of biomathemátic methods, we must develop virtual models of vaccines based on all possible exchanges of subunits homologous virus genomes. This way we will capable to elaborate vaccines against any virus in 2 weeks.

GRIPE PORCINA

CELL REPROGRAMMING

Progress in cell reprogramming (conversion of mature cells in induced pluripotent stem-cell-like :iPSCs),are impressive. If iPSC’s generation (expression of 4 transcriptión factors: Oct4, Klf4, Sox2 and c-Myc), by Yamanaka in the 2006,was a breakthrough, the recent cell reprogramming achieved by Hongyan Zhou, Shili Wu, Jin Young Joo et al(Cell Stem Cell, 23 April 2009), by means of treatment of mouse’s mature fibroblasts, with mixtures of proteins (that anchored to the amino acid arginine, activate certain trascriptión factors), should be considered a seuperbreaktrough. The last type of cell reprogramming (protein-induced pluripotent stem cells: piPSCs), achieves: 1)Big quantities of embryonic like-cells, facilitating the design of models of any illness 2)Facilitating the study of cell metabolism of healthy and sick people, this method favour a personalized medicine and pharmacology 3)Permit to generate any type of adult faulty or damaged cells 4) Saves time, is more economic, sure and stable. Reprogramming by means of insertion of genes carried out by virus, implied viral and cellular genomic changes, with risk of cancer induction.

The following obvious step -if the relationship mind-body works at this level- will be cell reprogramming induced by electric or mental impulses (acupuncture, included). Of being this way, to maintain a healthy mind will be in the future a common sanitary practice. Meantime as foresee the columnist of Der Spiegel, in few years, a patient with diabetes will be subjected to scraping of the arm, in a clinic in order to obtain adult cells, to which a mixture of chemical substances will be added, after being cultivated. Achieved the reprogramming, it will be added days later, more chemical substances and pancreatic cells.

REPROGRAMACION CELULAR

BLUE BRAIN PROJECT

Primitive ideas about human head transplants failed for the enormous difficulties that it involved. With the advance of science has been gradually establishing the feasibility of performing transplants not of heads, but brain simulations and possibly mind transplants (by scanning all brain areas). By 2005, IBM gave way to the Blue Brain Project (simulation of the mouse brain), designed under reverse engineering (the process of discovery of the principles of a technology device, object or system through analysis of its structure, function and operation). In the process of reverse engineering the brain is reconstructed in 3D, by 3D scanning: CMMs, laser scanners, structured light Digitizers and computed tomography.

Finally this week was presented at the European Future Technologies meeting in Prague, the first phase of cerebral simulation (Blue Brain), a detailed simulation of a small brain region (modeled neocortical column of a unit involved in memory, thought, communication, adaptation, planning for the future), responsible for higher brain functions and thinking. The simulation was built molecule to molecule recreating results of real brains. The virtual brain was virtually inserted into the body of a virtual animal to observe in detail the activity of neocortex columns as the animal moves in its environment, establishing the molecular and neural bases of thought and memory. The next phase is the molecularizatión-genomizatión process and the establishment of a personalized brain medicine

PROYECTO CEREBRO AZUL

OBAMA WON BY HUMAN INTRAGROUP COOPERATION

David Rand, Thomas Pfeiffer, Anna Dreber et al, recruited 790 democratic youths (age average :30,3, 58% : women), of public spaces of Cambridge/MA, writing down the changes of their preferences for Obama or Hillary Clinton, during 3 events of the 2008, presidential campaign a): June/10-18, after the speech of concession of Clinton b) August/9-14, before the beginning of the National Democratic Convention (DNC) and c) September /2-5, after the DNC, being demonstrated remodelling of group identities (for political ideas, genre, ethnicity, etc), in adherents to Obama or Clinton. After the speech of concession of Clinton (June/2008), democratic males were more generous toward Obama, while mature women not, attitude that persisted until August and disappeared in September after the DNC and before the republican candidate's emergent presence : Sarah Palin, being assumed that these changes of group identity gave the victory to Obama.

Changes that followed the rules of the dictator's game (usual behavior in business), in which not to opt them implies big economic losses. The intragroups of a society battles among them for resources but they unite forces if are attacked by a powerful third. Good example of favoritism existent along our history, that become according to the circumstances in human cooperation.

STEM CELL THERAPY and TYPE 1, DIABETES

http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/spanish/science/newsid_6544000/6544461.stm

A team of brazilian and american researchers elevated the levels of insulin in 14/of 15 diabetic type 1 (immune system’s attack against pancreatic beta cells, producers of insulin), recently diagnosed (15-21 years), maintaining them free of insulin among 7-36 months. The patients received stimulating drugs to produce stem cells, collecting them later from bone marrow. Immune systems of patients were high suppressed with drugs, then took antibiotics and were isolated to protect them of infections. 2 weeks later, the extracted autologous stem cells were injected in their blood through jugular vein (Autologous nonmyeloablative hematopoietic stem cell transplantation -AHST-in type 1 diabetes).

6 months later, the level of C-péptide (ascends with insulin), was very high. Julio Voltarelli (Hemocentro/University of Sao Paulo/Brazil), sustains that AHST, reconstructs the immune system and regenerates beta cells. Contrarily, Jay Skyler (University of Miami/USA), sustains that it is necessary to be cautious. "We are not sure that AHST created but cells beta or if the immune system stop attacking beta cells… The procedure is not exempt of risks, it is not good for all and it is very early to say if the effect is permanent."

CELULAS MADRE y DIABETES TIPO 1.

US ELECTRONIC HEALTH SYSTEM

Clinical history: CH (written record of a patient's disease and its auxiliary tests) is a basic element of recording diagnosis and treatment of a patient. Apart from being a legal instrument, when CHs grown in quantity and quality optimize the chances of individual successful medical treatments offering also to the country an invaluable epidemiological profile of major national diseases in order to plan successful health campaigns. The problem of CHs in many developing countries is that they are difficult to store, preserve and circulate in good condition, so in many cases becomes in devastating losses. With the advent of electronic health information technology, has emerged the hope of making them more efficient, more reliable and of high quality.

The dream in health techno information: 1) Each patient make an appointment at a specific time in a hospital, via e-mail. If the patient is new he must (using the same system), fill a full history questionary and sent back it via e-mail. After it, he he assist punctually at the specified date and time being subjected to physical examination and appropriate ancillary testing. 2) When the latter (radiography, tomography, echocardiogram, videos, etc.) are ready, a doctor at the hospital take digital pictures, select and stored them in a PC. 3) Holding a USB 34-G, the patient gets a copy, including videos. If he goes to other hospitals in the country or abroad, he must request copies of procedures and medical treatments, also storing the data. In case of doubt, is recommended direct consultation to the hospital of origin which has original copies of the HCs. 4) If for some reason a patient suffers loss of consciousness in the street, a quick reading of stored data on a USB hold in a patient’s neck, help solve the problem. The system can also perform via-Internet medical interconsultations to foreign doctors. If the patient is in the hospital, the results of their test or other procedures should arrive instantly to ICUs(intensive care units). 5) Needless to say that some medical consultations must be performed and validated using multimedia. So, the CH would be an invaluable document. We ask ourselves, how close or far we are from this ideal.

In the last issue of NEJM, there is an article that examines electronic health systems in 2952 american hospitals, whereas a low level of adoption of electronic health records exists. The authors mention the existence of many obstacles: high cost of inplementatión (74% of cases), maintenance (44%), lack of skilled staff (30%), resistance from physicians (36%), no clear return investment (32%). Only 1.5% of U.S. hospitals currently have a comprehensive system of electronic registration systems (present in all clinical units), while 7.6% have a basic system in any clinical unit). Computer entry are only implemented in 17% of American hospitals (large urban and teaching hospitals).

PERUVIAN CUBE SAT

The announcement carried out by the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria (UNI/Peru), of launching to the space a Cube Sat (Cost:100 000-200 000 dollars, 1 kg of weight, volume :1 liter), at the end of the 2010, generates founded expectations and also of the other ones in diverse environments. Based on the growing miniaturization of structural components, some argue that it will be unnecessary to acquire conventional artificial macrosatéllites (15-50 million dollars). Situation that forces us to analyze likeness, differences and futuristic projections of both types of satellites. When Russia, launched in 1957 the first artificial macrosatéllite (Sputnik I), this weighed 83 kgs, lacked solar energy and of photographic cameras. Alone it had radio transmitters and sensors to measure concentration of electrons in the ionósphere, temperature and atmospheric pressure, coded in radio hoots. The Sputnik I, a sphere of aluminum of 58 diameter cm, carried out 1400 orbits to the Earth and after 92 days stopped to transmit for exhaustion of its batteries. The main objective of the Sputnik 1, was to enlarge the covering of the communications.

The current artificial macrosatéllites (but of 1000 kgs), carry hundred of sensors, potent photographic cameras (they identify objects of 1 m of diameter in any point of the earth), having diverse energy sources (solar panels, propellers of ions, liquid H, etc). A sophistication, that agree with 2 big objectives: 1) conformation of macrointersatellital nets (24-30 satellites), multimedia communications (systems GPS that alone possess Russia and USA), 2) continuous exploration of our solar system, thanks to big energy store and multiple instruments of precision. The small size of the Cube Sat, confines them to research projects in universities and technological centers (communications, prediction of the climate, microgravity, biomedical tests, evaluation of components, contact with radiofans, shipment of ashy of dead to the space, photography, atmospheric investigation, training of students, taking of pictures of scarce resolution: it distinguishes fertile from bad areas).

The problem of the Cube Sat is energy. The Colombian satellite Libertad, lacking of solar panels lasted 34 days (it drained its battery). The Peruvian nanosatéllite seeks to last 2 months (it will have solar panels and a CMOS photographic camera). It won't develop great science, because most of its components are commercial (they come in kits). All that is needed is a PC and a certified compiler MSP430C. Engineers of UNI will also reinforce the chassis to resist radiations and changes of temperature, will design hardware and softwares adapted to the mission, control systems, batteries solar panels, telemetry, etc. For their limitations, the Cube Sat, alone has future if they remain more time in orbit or are able to conform nanosatellites nets (miniGPS). The idea of building rockets (Doris Rojas/UNI), to launch them, is a nonsense. It is more cheap that Russian or French continues launching 20 to 30 nanosatéllites at the same time, stuck to rockets sent with other ends.

CUB SAT, PERUANO

RULES TO FORM LIMBS

We have just finished to read an article in the Newyorktimes, revealing the efforts and impressive achievements in understanding the genetic networks that determine the time, shape and development of the 4 legs of chicken embryos, and others. It is amazing that evolutionary biologists who work at this, ensures that the formation of other organs (to which more complicated), should follow the same pattern of genetic regulation imposed on the extremities, with the ultimate aim of total regeneration lost limbs or organs. But something is missing in these papers. We don’t see holistic mathematical theories to explain the formation of total animal and human bodies, because the genetic code is mathematically computable. We have the impression that biologists are working step by step, slice by slice, without an overview based on equations suggested by biology. Theories that would shorten the time spent on these investigations, to be sure.

NEW OVA AFTER BIRTH?

Kang Ji Zou and Wu (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), showed that young and adult mice are able to produce eggs after birth. Until recently it was thought that during the formation of the embryo, was formed also a finite number of ova to be used throughout the reproductive life of a mouse. The researchers scanned the ovaries of a mouse, searching producing cells of vasa, a homologous protein, found in germ cell lines. Extracted, the cells were cultured in the laboratory, adding genes that gave them green fluorescent hues, finally injecting the cells between the layers of germ cells from the ovaries of a group of mice whose own eggs had been killed. Green newborn mice are supposed to be produced by the inserted germ cells, says the authors being evidence of generation of new eggs after birth, which will be useful in treatment of infertility at any age.

NIELS bOHR

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohr
Predicting the classical electromagnetism that a charged particle moving circularly will emit energy collapsing around the nucleus in short time, precluded making an atomic model. Boldly, Bohr in 1913 solved the problem by announcing that atomic movements obey other laws (probability), explained by equations. So, electrons can have stable orbits around the nucleus. Bohr used the hydrogen atom to formulate a model that can explain the stability of matter and the emission and absorption spectra that are observed in discrete gases. He described the hydrogen atom with one proton in the nucleus, around which revolves an electron. In his model the rotating electrons occupy orbits with the lowest possible energy, or orbits closer to the nucleus. Bohr calculated the distances of each electronic orbit from the nucleus, in the hydrogen atom, ordered by numbers. The electron jumps from one orbit to another until it reaches a suitable level and space, depending on the energetic power to liberate and again return to their original orbit. His model holds 4 tenets: 1) The electrons orbit the atom and quantized into discrete levels of energy. Not all orbits are allowed, only a finite number. 2) The electrons hop from one electronic level to another without passing through intermediate stages. 3) The jump of an electron from one level to another involves absorption or emission of a single light quantum (photon), whose energy is the difference between the two orbits. 4) The allowed orbits are quantized on discrete values of orbital angular momentum L, according to the following equation: L=n.h=n.h/2.pi

To his theory would be added energy sublevels and electronic elliptical orbits of Arnold Sommerfeld, the properties of waves or particles suggested by Louis De Broglie, and the uncertainty principle postulated by Heisenberg (it is impossible to simultaneously and accurately determine the position and velocity of the electron).

Niels Bohr

REPLACEMENT CHILDREN

Marissa Evans (42), wishes to remove semen from the corpse of her son Colton Nicholas Evans, died at age 21 in an accident. She contends that her son who was about to finish college, longed to have a child. A Texas district judge has instructed experts to collect semen, while Marissa is offering money to surrogate mothers to carry out her project. In Texas there are newspapers in favor of and against. Opponents argue that many people want replacement children, which is devoid of ethical consensus, as it only tends to satisfy egos of others.

CHILDREN and LEARNING

According to Judith Rich Harris (1998: The Nurture Assumption. 2008: No two alike): 1) friends, classmates and teachers, are more important in influencing behavior in children, than rules imposed by their parents. 2) psychologists undervalue the influence of heredity and 3) we must learn from the classrooms of children in Asia, where they learn faster. According to the psychologist, children learn at home how to behave at home and outside how to behave outside. If you want children more attentive and less disruptive in class, the school is needed to be intervened and not the house. A common problem in the classroom is the split of school groups: a) pro school, pro learning and b) anti-school, antilearning. Well for the teachers who knows how to avoid this split. A classroom with 40 children are more likely to split, than one of 20. If a room has 1 or 2 children of different social background, they assimilate desirable behavior and attitudes. If a room have more than 5, it is formed a group that retains their attitudes and behaviors.

While Freud attributed the problems of personality of the child to his parents, especially mothers, Rich, found them not entirely responsible, she has r alternative views, including the influence of heredity in personality (more similarities between biological relatives). Until 1938, the parents did not sacrifice their comfort to satisfy the wishes of their children. Corporal punishment repaired home misconducts. Although this trend changed in the past 70 years, everything remains the same (children continue to be aggressive and does not have better mental health). Better methods has improved behaviors, skills and attitudes adopted by the culture, but little in relation with personality development. With socialization behaviors of children are alike, although differences of personality, are expanded. In No Two Alike, Rich, offers 3 modular mind components related to specific tasks of social development: 1) parental relationships 2) socialization and 3) competition with peers, selecting the best.

LOS NIÑOS y el APRENDIZAJE

Judith Rick Harris (1998:
The Nurture Assumption

SMALLEST FROG OF THE WORLD

Biologists are fascinated with the discovery of a new species of Noblella: Pygmaea noblella by Edgar Lehr (Dresden/Germany) and Alessandro Catenazzi (Berkeley/USA), in the upper valley Cosñipata (3025-3190 m), in Southern Peru (Cusco). The new species measured 11.4 mm (snout-cloaca): an average adult, one of the world's smallest frogs. Call attention its large fingers and fast step into adulthood. Its density is 30 to 75 individuals/ha, inhabiting high cloud forests puna). It has a remarkably long finger. In 1960, the French Jean Vellard described an inverse relationship between size of anurans and altitude: the highest the altitude, the smaller the size, which he attributed to the effects of hypoxia.

It has a remarkably long finger.

CHILDREN STRONG MENTALLY

The german psychologist Insa Fooke (U/Siegen), gives some tips to make strong mentally to normal and vulnerable children, at very young age.
1) Make that they be loved and accepted, have an open mind and balanced temperament. That they have recognition and social relationships. As life is full of difficulties, prepare them for possible solutions to various problems.
2) Make their minds elastic, not to break before the stress of life. The earlier they experiment and learn to solve their problems, better.
3) To accept the change as an essential part of their lives. Develop self-esteem. Make them see things realistically and hopefully.
4) Engaged them in making decisions: "want to go to the beach or the garden?." Teach them control their own lives. To be resilient depend on genes but also on the environment.
5) In the case of vulnerable children, or from lower social classes, Fook believes they should be inserted in programs (FAST), involving networks of parents and schools beginning in the kindergarten. Meetings of 8 sessions, in the last all play a game in which children make the rules.

NINOS MENTALMENTE FUERTES

VIRTUAL STOMACH

A group of scientists from USA and England struggle to understand, how humans digest and absorb food. The implications of their work (food for cosmonauts, superfoods, better food preservation) has led some of them, to argue that very little is known of gastrointestinal function. Innovations in this area include the creation of mechanical stomachs (with their respective enzymes, acids and real food), and virtual stomachs and intestines (controlled by PCs), simulating human digestion (British Institute of Food Research, Institute of Dr. Paul Singh/Davis' s Department of Food Science & Technology). I) One aim of these works is understand how food are break down and absorbed by human body. Another is to create superfoods. So, knowing how it is absorbed the glucose we could treat diabetes more effectively.

II) Another aim is to understand the differences in digestion and absorption of cooked and raw foods. Total cooking can eliminate important nutrients, while a slight preserve nutrients : lycopene from tomato (antioxidant), folic acid, or beta carotene of spinach. A cooked carrot takes 20 minutes to be reduced to 50% of its original mass, while making a raw, only one hour. After removal (by heat) natural almond shells, they released a slightly higher amount of nutrients. We know the constituents of most foods, but not how they are absorbed better. Now, Paul Singh is able to determine in his gastrointestinal digital system, the ultimate size of some solid foods (2.5 mm in diameter), establishing whether they are porous or solid. Singh, who has a 3-D stomach, says that each food has its own structure and a matrix that keeps them together. If it does not break, the nutrients are not assimilated.
ESTOMAGO VIRTUAL

ABEL PRIZE : MIKHAIL GROMOV

Metric structures for Riemannian and non-Riemannian spaces

The Nobel Prize in Mathematics (Abel Prize/Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. 2009/US $ 950,000) was granted to the Jewish-French-Russian Mikhail Gromov L (65), for his ideas that paved new avenues in geometry and other areas of mathematics. Gromov, like Perelman, is a continuous innovator in Riemannanian geometry and topology. He created the theory of metric asymptotic infinite groups, which exceeds previous conceptions of real analysis, Riemann geometry and algebraic topology. His geometric theory of groups, is dedicated to the study of finitely generated groups that explore connections between algebraic and topological properties of such groups and the properties of spaces on which these groups operate. His hyperbolic group proposal, capture the idea of groups finitely generated having negative curvature on large scale.

Gromov form part of a new wave of creators that overcome the initiatives of Svarc and Milnor (growth groups) and the proof of rigidity of structures (manifolds), created by Mostow. Based on the notion of Gromov-Hausdorff-distance between Riemann manifolds (that organizes all types of possible topology on a single connected special module, where convergence allows the collapse of the dimensions), Gromov, created a metric to the interior structure of the theory of homotopy introducing new invariants controlling combinatorial complexity of maps and spaces, such as simplicity of volume for degrees of maps between manifolds. During this era of creation, Banach spaces and probability theory, suffered geometric metamorphosis, stimulated by Levy-Milman phenomenon, that favored laws of large numbers for metric spaces and dimensions aimed towards infinity.

Gromov has written a classic (2006/Metric Riemannian structures and non-Riemannian spaces), product of a course taught by him in Paris, where he outlined his main ideas. Permanent professor of the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques/France (IHÉS), Gromov currently applies his ideas to human genome sequence. It is said that he hated the Russian school (because it was wasting time), that he left Russia because he hated to speak what others dictate him to say and a teaching position in the U.S., because he lost time (for thinking creatively), getting buses.

PREMIO ABEL :MIKHAIL GROMOV

El Premio Nóbel de Matemáticas (Abel Prize/Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.

PREVENTIVE BRAIN MEDICINE

How avoiding certain birth cerebral anomalies, bad behavior (until criminal), of some children, the senile dementia, the Alzheimer's?. Certainly, some virus or other environmental conditions give bill to such anomalies. But the advance of neuroscience is structuring a cerebral medicine. For the present, the prevention should begin from prenatal time (mothers free of stress, that eat well, that don't smoke that don't consume alcohol), as long as the fetus listens and remembers sounds that contribute to form its brain. The growth and neuronal connection is intense during the first 2 trimesters of the pregnancy, needing the mother to ingest appropriate quantities of folic acid and perhaps vitamin B12, to close the neural tube, avoiding the development of bifid spine or anencephaly. There exist evidences that alcohol kills neurons, alters the function of neurotransmissors, induces cognitive defects, of behavior, physical and diminishes the fetal sanguine flow. The nicotine alters the function of neurotransmissors, the mercury induces loss of neurons in the cerebellum and parts of the cortex due to deprivement of nutritious elements and oxygen. The fetal brain is affected by lack of proteins, iron and zinc, necessary for neuronal migration. It also needs polyunsaturated fatty acids of long chain, necessary for sinapsis growth and appropriate function of the membranes. Although the placenta is a highly selective barrier, it doesn't impede the flow of mercury, nicotine and alcohol. An inefficient placenta (senile mother, high maternal arterial pressure, strés, nicotine), poorly controlled diabetes, affect the fetal brain. The adrenaline secreted by a stressed pregnant mother will form anxious children, with disorders of hyperactivity and deficit of attention.

After being born, vital experiences, model the boy's emotional well-being. For their side, adolescents are selfish, conflicting, irrational, irritable, because their brains are in construction. Some thought that it was due to high levels of sexual hormones. But Jay Giedd and others have demonstrated by means of cerebral scan (but of 400 adolescents) that during this stage pruning of gray matter exists. It is pruned the non used while new nervous roads are built. The adolescent's cerebral reconstruction, begins with the motor and sensitive areas, then the areas of language and space orientation, those related with executive functions and finally those related with the prefrontal cortex and the front lobe (control of impulses, good trial, decisions-made, control and process of emotional information coming from the amygdala). Due to the above-mentioned, the adolescents are at the same time sponges to learn (music, art, good reading, trips), as prone to ingest drugs, alcohol, cigarette, not protected sex, lack of control of impulses, poor trial and not good appreciation of long term of consequences. The peak of the cerebral power extends until the 35 years, with a turnaround to beginnings of senile age. But there of 70, differences exist among the one that ages with a positive brain (continuous intellectual activity) and the one that constantly forgets things.

MEDICINA CEREBRAL PREVENTIVA

MACHINES WILL EQUAL HUMAN INTELLIGENCE?

http://singularity.com/
To read :
In our monograph The Evolution (1997/UPCH) we held that "in the near future, there will be machines or men (workers of science, performing tasks similar to those performed by most today scientists), dedicated to conducting experiments to verify hypothesis. Top scientists (real creators), would be devoted only to creating panhypothesis. Some of these would be all day in a sort of mystic trance, dedicated to creating hypothesis". We go back to this view, because yesterday was published in Science a computational algorithm (Michael Schmidt and Hod Lipson algorithm), by which a computer performs independent biochemical experiments, analysis of the metabolism of a fungus and discovered laws of motion observing only pendular movements. The interesting thing is that computers do these discoveries, without previous knowledge of physics, geometry or kinematics.

The algorithm first looks for regularities. Then, having variables examine how changes impact on other variables. Then create random equations, scanning to see how close to physic actual system are equations created and physical movements observed. The always correct equations are called invariants. Once these are identified, emerge basic equations that describe the tangible system. While humans need 7-8 hS, to accomplish these tasks, the algorithm succeeds in minutes. As Ray Kurzweil says (The singularity is near), the exponential growth of the achievements of science, is very close. Will machines reach the level of human intelligence?. Yes. In order not to be overcome by machines, future humans (posthumans in this case), will adapt to their brains nanomachines in order not to be left behind. After all, the human brain is a biomáchine with emergent properties. Will win a robot, a Nobel Prize?:Yes.
