HUMAN TIME- SPATIAL ORIENTATION

In a previous note we informed that confined and isolated astronauts in the 105 days Mars500 experiment (inside a capsule that simulated trip to Mars),thought they remained there only 15 days, due to perceptual changes induced by lack of sunlight, night-day changes and others. Now the space psychologist Colin Ellard (University of Waterloo/US), explains in his book You Are Here, that human time-spatial perception is a simplistic evolutionary trick that helps our memories, although many of such simplifications are not real. Our brain aligned non aligned lines, shapes straight lines where previously were curved and joined scattered things, virtual tricks that sometimes cause us to lose, especially in big cities like London, Hong Kong, Paris or Beijing.

Unlike bees, mice and other animals that require exact geometric representations of geographic spaces (otherwise they could not return to their nests or escape from fierce predators). African desert ant, which travels great distances in search of food, use a solar compass embedded in their eyes and keep track of her steps with an odometer. Other animals are designed to detect the Earth's magnetic field. Humans have replaced these animal abilities for other cognitive accommodations. We planned and imagine spaces; build our own space-time, places and time because it is very easy.

ORIENTACION TEMPORO-ESPACIAL HUMANA
