JEALOUS’ MEANING

Affecting the jealousies the entirety of our emotions are there evidence of healthy social relationships or are emotional marks settled down in some moment of our evolutionary history, because of their utility?. Robert Rydell (Indiana University) and Robert Bringle (Indiana University-Purdue), adduce the existence of imaginary jealousies (suspicious) and other reactive, based on facts. Conclusion to which they arrived after interviewing to but of 600 volunteers, in which reactive jealousies frequently happened in relationships of high interdependence and fidelity. Suspicious jealousies on the other hand happened in people with anomalous personality (subject of very low self-esteem). Dutch Pieternel Barelds-Dijkstra and Dick Barelds, after interviewing 961 couples that were together for but of 22 years, identified jealousies compatible with a normal emotional health ("it is difficult that my couple finds somebody better than me"). For several psychologists the roots of jealousies can be tracked thousands of years behind, when societary norms favored a romantic, indivisible love. In this respect, Ulrich Mees sustains that a love of this type, exclusive and loyalist could be understand by others as protection, in which one of the parts carry the risk of suffering emotional insults.

According to some point of view, jealousies exist from early childhood. Sybil Hart (U. of Texas), identified jealous babies of 6 months of age, when their mothers directed their preferential attention to dolls. This way, early jealousies could model mature loving relationships. Amy Rauer (U. of Alabama) and Brenda Volling (U. of Michigan), after interviewing 200 mature youths, found that those that received a lot of attention from their parents developed high self-esteem and felt less stress in their mature loving relationships. We know little of the men of Pleistocene and of the first hunter-gatherers alone we know that they didn't take charge of the care of their children. Nevertheless for evolutionary biologists jealousies provided in some moment advantage of survival (if the food is scarce, a brother is a threat). In adults jealousies would have allowed the transmission of their genes. Along the history, jealousies unchained in men fear of sexual infidelity, as long as in women fear of emotional infidelity (bad genetic investment/material resources to be divided among 2 families). In Germany, Penke and Asendorpf, concluded that jealousies have to do with education level and the process of equality between men and women. People with smaller educational level in specific environments, would be constantly distrustful and but jealous. In certain cases women attack their spouses, as long as men attack their rivals.
