PC VIDEO GAMES

Kathleen Beullens, Keith Roe and Jan Van den Bulck (Catholic University/Belgium), accomplished a study to relate the practice of racing video games sold off by teens (16-17 years old/354 men and women), with later irresponsible conducts (excessive speed, not taking risks into account), in the real world. Excellent player, excellent driver?. The study attempted to predict the development of risky conducts in the future, explained for the content of video games. Questionnaires were sent to 2000 Belgian teens inquiring how often they played. 2 years later when the same teens had driver licenses they were again asked how often they took risks (drinking when they drove, excessive speed). The driving license is obtained at 18 years in Belgium. Although the researchers did not know if the answers were honest, habitually these are sincere if questionnaires are anonymous. Although a statistically significant relation between drinking, high speed and driving was inconsistent at 18, it was showed a significant relation between reckless driving and having practiced video games between 16 and 17 years. Beullens advocates campaigns of security for young people immersed in video games. Although some studies performed in USA deduce that these games improve the vision, decrease phobias and develop altruistic feelings it was demonstrated at the University of Missouri Columbia (2005), that players of violent games had diminished responses to images of real violence. Companies that made computer video games require more analyses before somebody reprove their games.

VIDEO-JUEGOS PELIGROSOS
