AUSTRALIAN’S DECLINING TREES

As it is known, farmland biodiversity is greatly enhanced by the presence of trees, which unfortunately are decreasing in North America, Central America and southern areas of Europe. This decline and its consequences are particularly severe in Australia. Using field data, remote sensitive imagery and tree population models, Marsida Kallupi and a team of researchers have predicted a contraction by 2100 in the the number of trees (2 / 3 of its current level). Statistical models assume that this decline will negatively affect many species of animals (50% to 24 species of birds and 6 species of bats), affecting the Australian economy dependent on agriculture (provisions for livestock and other). Authors argue that Australian agriculture has crossed a threshold that will prevent its self-sustaining. To reverse this trend there are calls for new policies.
