COMING DISCOVERIES -II-

According to Stuart L Pimm (Conservation Ecology, Duke Univ.), now that has been completed a globalof the American Geophysical Union), now we know better the universal extent of the effects of the Indian Ocean, as is extracted from data collected over several years. According to him, the Indian Ocean circulation triggered major changes in the atmosphere affecting the entire planet. Every month tons of clouds move eastward affect the monsoon in India, generatin census of marine many are interested in knowing how many species of animals and other organisms exist in the oceans. How many species are highly dispersed in the oceans. Whether the high diversity of the oceans is built by a few species, with the risk of mass extinction. According to Michael J. McPhaden (President g rainfall in USA and hurricanes in the Atlantic. The Madden-Julian oscillation generated by the Indian Ocean is so powerful that its wind speed up or slow the rotation of the earth. According to Ken Caldeira (Carnegie Institution), although the climate models have improved little allow projections of climate changes for coming years. So, if the global economy hinges on information technology and industrial services, global temperatures will rise between 1.1 and 2.9 degrees C, in the coming years. If on the other hand we continue using fossil energy, the predicted rise of the temperature will be 2.4 to 6.4 degrees. Jane McGonigal (Games Make us Better). Future games could have practical applications and even could generate new discoveries. There is already a very competitive game (Foldit), which encourages players to design the most appropriate protein folding. According to David Haussler (Center for Biomolecular Science and Engineering), scientist will read new types of genomes (of immune cells and various forms of cancer), enabled by the fall in the cost of reading genomes. The genomes of immune cells constantly change to stay healthy. Rearranging some sections of our DNA, genes create new immune cells to form antibodies and receptors. The International Cancer Genome Consortium has the goal to sequence 25.000 genomes of a variety of cancers, allowing to select the best anticancer drugs and better tolerate transplants.

DESCUBRIMIENTOS EN LOS SIGUIENTES AÑOS -II-

Stuart L Pimm (Conservation Ecology, Duke Univ). Michael J. McPhaden (President of American Geophysical Union). Jane McGonigal (Games Make us Better).
