NEW HUMAN MICROBIOTE

I) When we look under a microscope a drop of contaminated water, are accounted for millions of germs. But if this drop of water is cultured grows only a small number of microorganisms. It happens that the traditional culture procedure is obsolete, there are better methods. More than 20 years ago, Carl Woese identified Archaea microorganisms living in extreme environments, sequencing its RNA. Since 1985, Jillian Banfield sequenced the 16S ribosomal RNA gene to identify germs living in sulfur, molybdenum and uranium mines and since 1999, to identify human germs. Many of these human previously not identified human germs (microbiota) plays a role in the generation of essential amino acids, in energy capture and facilitating the functions of our immune system. Humans and their partners the germs have coevolved. We now need to include the entire human microbiota for understanding how function our body. Ideas given to call: The new theory of germs.

II) Michael Morowitz and David Relman (Stanford University/California), are currently exploring the body human microbiota with this technique of sequencing, analyzing microbial genes to distinguish new species in the intestine, skin, mouth, having been built in the past 5 years a catalog gene of the human microbiota with germs that inhabit highly complex zones, interacting, in co-evolution, establishing connections between germs and our bodies,in nutrition, metabolism of drugs, obesity, cancer, autism and multiple sclerosis, showing that they follow logical principles : colonization, sucession, competition, cooperation, etc. Lita Proctor, has a 5 year contract to develop the Human Microbiome Project (HMP), devoted to sequencing the human microbiome. III) With the same technique of sequencing some researchers are also studying the process of bacterial colonization during the first 3 weeks of life in preterm infants and healthy humans neonates, with the intention of viewing the installation of the first germs. What germs come first?. How are the community of germs in a sterile gastrointestinal tract?. How to adjust the bacterial ecosystem during the illness, diet, antibiotic therapy?. Would it be correct the concept of one germ-one disease?.
MICROBIOTA HUMANA
