WORLD EXPENDITURE ON RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT





The latest report of the World State of Science (2010), conducted every 5 years by UNESCO realize: I) Increased participation in Research and Development of emerging Asian countries, particularly China. Regard to GERD (Gross Domestic Expenditure on Research and Development), Asian countries invested 32% overall between 2002 and 2007, located just behind the USA (34.7%), ahead of the European Union (27.3%) and Japan (13%). At individual country level : Germany (GERD: 6.1%), France and England (3.4%, each one), India (2.2%), Russia (2.1%), Brazil (1.6% .) II) The number of researchers in Asian developing countries rose from 30% to 38% from 2002 to 2007, belonging 2/3 of this increase to China alone. IV) The number of scientific publications from China rose from 5.2% to 10.6% from 2002 to 2008, behind the European Union (36.5%) and USA (27.7%) and ahead of Japan (7.6%) , although the rate of citations worldwide is still low..

El ultimo reporte del Estado Mundial de la Ciencia (2010), realizado cada 5 años por la Unesco da cuenta de :I) Una mayor participación en Investigación y Desarrollo de parte de países asiaticos emergentes, en particular China. Tocante al GERD (Gross Domestic Expenditure on Research and Development), los paises asiaticos de conjunto invirtieron 32% entre el 2002 y 2007, ubicandose apenas detrás de USA (34,7%), delante de la Union Europea (27,3 %) y Japon (13%). A nivel de países individuales destacan: Alemania (GERD:6,1%), Francia e Inglaterra (3,4%, cada uno), India (2,2%), Rusia (2,1%), Brasil (1,6%). II) El numero de investigadores en paises asiáticos en desarrollo ascendió de 30% a 38% entre el 2002 al 2007, perteneciendo 2/3 de este incremento a China sola. IV) El numero de publicaciones cientificas de China ascendió de 5,2% a 10,6%, entre el 2002 al 2008, detras de la Union Europea (36.5%) y USA (27.7%) y delante de Japon (7.6%), aunque la tasa de citaciones a nivel mundial es aun baja.
