Until recently, the results of reading comprehension and mathematics were not favorable for the average North-American students. Conversely, disciplined Chinese and Indian students controlled and guided by tiger mothers, almost always occupied the top spots. Are American students lazy?. No, definitely. My personal point of view about it is that north-american students for years have been quietly questioning the traditional teaching of most of their high school settled -with a few exceptions- in memory and repetition. In other words, their low grades in international contests were a reflection of a rejection to their traditional teaching systems. However the students themselves were quietly designing more creative teaching methods, using technology to which they are addicted. Therefore, I beg you dear reader to watch this TED video, in which the computer scientist Salman Khan creator of a technology-interactive- creative teaching received a long standing ovation at the end of his speech. Khan has developed over 2000 free online videos to teach mathematics to children and adults. Videos, with full carefully structured educational curriculums in several areas, showing the power of interactive exercises to be developed at home or in the same classroom with the teacher's help. Khan Academy, has changed the paradigm from memorize and repeat to questioning and experimenting with what students are concentrated in the most creative: thinking. No, definitivamente.
