RESISTANCE AGAINST ANTIQUE GERMS



Analysis of soil samples from 30 000 years old showed bacterial resistance to various antibiotics. Substances derived from antibiotics occur normally in nature generating resistance against them because they perhaps represented a selective advantage for certain organisms. Gerard Wright (McMaster University/Hamilton, Canada), published in Nature, an article in which he performed metagenomic analysis of ancient DNA coming from Beringia permafrost sediments identifying collections of genes that confer resistance to b-lactam antibiotics, tetracyclines and others.Reality is that antibiotic resistance is part of the ecosystem and that many dangerous pathogens are not eliminated with antibiotics, being more advisable to live with them improving our immune system. At present, multiresistance to antibiotics is incubated in hospitals, being favored by global spread of antibiotic that induce easy bacterial genetic exchange, givers of resistance. Wright also showed the presence of antique functional genes that generate enzymes that confer resistance to certain current antibiotics.

Analisis de muestras de tierra de 30 000 años de antiguedad demostraron resistencia a diversos antibióticos desde estas épocas. Sustancias derivadas de antibioticos ocurren normalmente en la naturaleza generándose resistencia contra ellos por representar una ventaja selectiva para ciertos organismos. Gerard Wright (McMaster University/Hamilton-Canada), ha publicado en Nature, un articulo al respecto en el que pesquisa analisis metagenomicos de DNA antiguo procedente de sedimentos de permafrosts beringios identificando colecciones de genes que conferian resistencia a antibioticos b-lactamicos, tetraciclinas y otros. Lo real es que la resistencia a antibióticos es parte del ecosistema y que muchos patógenos peligrosos no serán eliminados con antibióticos, siendo mas recomendable convivir con ellos mejorando nuestro sistema inmune. En la actualidad la multiresistencia a antibióticos se incuba en hospitales, siendo favorecida por la diseminación global de antibióticos inductores de fáciles intercambios geneticos bacterianos, dadores de resistencia. Wright demostró además la presencia de genes funcionales antiquísimos capaces de generar enzimas que conferían resistencia frente a ciertos antibioticos actuales.
